I fainted on the job. That was my rude awakening to burnout and that incident forever changed my life. But before we dive into that, let me rewind a bit.

My name is Kelsey and today, I’m a business coach helping entrepreneurs scale their revenue, reach, and team. I’m also a wife, a fitness enthusiast, pretzel connoisseur and big fan of a nice, cold Hefewizen on a fall day. I don’t own a single thing that is purple, and in my downtime I love to play board games, trivia, or explore the outdoors. My favorite thing to do is help people chase their dreams whether they hire me as a coach or high-five me at the Pullman Airport.

But it wasn’t always like this. Prior to coaching, I was a hairstylist (yes, with a business degree from WSU). And I was chasing $$$. On that particular day, I had coffee for breakfast and lunch. It was about 2pm and I had just finished applying color to my clients hair. I remember the walls closing in, a cold sweat creeping up my spine, and then I found myself crawling to the bathroom.

I had been so obsessed with working, making money, and chasing my goal, that I had put my well-being last. And that choice had finally caught up with me. That’s the moment I realized there’s more to life than your work.

I know it sounds silly, but burnout led me to a path of personal development. I loved it so much that it evolved into a podcast, sharing tips and tricks, and now it’s a big part of what I do with my clients. I’m excited to bring that energy to the Ignite ‘24 retreat and hope you join us in this total reset of your life.

It all began with a BMX bike. Growing up, my family couldn't afford the latest toys and branded sports equipment that other kids had. When I turned 10, my Grandma gifted me a second-hand bike and an S.O.S. scrub pad to polish it. Spending hours shining that bike, I couldn't help but think about how the effort could be directed towards making money for a new one. That marked the start of my journey into entrepreneurship.

In college, I sold my first event t-shirt and organized my inaugural concert. Post-graduation, I took a detour from law school and embarked on a journey with a pop-punk band. I managed bands, ran a record label, and eventually established a branded merchandise studio that became one of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

After a decade of scaling the company nationwide, I felt a misalignment with my values and personal goals. Welcoming a new addition to my family intensified this realization. Feeling like an imposter, I knew a change was necessary. A life-altering retreat in Costa Rica surrounded by successful individuals prompted me to step down as CEO, and it turned out to be the best professional decision I've made.

Following a transformative sabbatical, I embraced the opportunity to lead CougsFirst!, a role that perfectly aligns with my passions—WSU, small-town life, and collaborating with fellow entrepreneurs. My aim is to guide others in rediscovering their passion, avoiding prolonged stagnation, rekindling their fire, and steering clear of burnout.
